Garbage, Garbage Everywhere!

The Traffic Week ended successfully. The motorists as well as the pedestrians were thoroughly checked from violating the traffic rules, at least for a week. And pedestrians like me were obviously cheered with the constant presence of traffic policemen and the supportive school children on the roads to regulate the traffic system. But with the end of the traffic week, the situation became rather worse not only because of the absence of the traffic cops and the school children in each corner of the roads but also because of the heaps of garbage accumulated everywhere in the capital.

I do not think that a traffic week is usually followed by a garbage Week in Kathmandu city. But by looking at the piles of garbage it seemed so. Otherwise, was it necessary for KMC to display the heaps of garbage in the capital city for three consecutive days, that too just after the Traffic Week was over? The uncollected waste, especially on rainy days, created problem for the pedestrians and the city dwellers. No one was able to walk pass these garbage heaps without covering his/her nose to avoid the stench coming from the rotting rubbish piles. It is a fact that the capital city has been suffering badly from the garbage problem for years. And it is mainly due to the lack of a suitable dumping site where the KMC can dump the garbage generated by the capital city dwellers. The concerned authorities, therefore, should search for proper dumping sites for the overall management of the capital’s waste problem.

I hope KMC will also explain why it was unable to properly dispose the garbage piles seen on the streets a few days ago.
