Friends Club, Kathmandu win BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, June 15; Friends club of Kupondole defeated boys Union in a close fight 3-2 while Kathmandu gunned down Sankata Boys Sports Club 3-1 in the Martyr’s Memorial League A division tournament, which resumed, Thursday. Sankata Boys started the match on high note getting the early lead through Ramesh Karmacharya in a very 3rd minute. Despite the early setback, Kathmandu kept the early nerve and within 25th minutes had got back themselves into the match to level the score. After the lemon break, Kathmandu boys were thick on action again, this time Balgopal Shertha consolidated the lead in the 59th minutes. Goals up Kathamndu Boys now were looking more than confident spelling trouble for Sankata with every passing minute. Kathamndu boys finally completed the tally in the dying minutes when Rajesh Manandhar made it 3-0. In the day’s second game , Friends club players to express their grief over the death of the club founding member inspector Navaraj Poudel tied black arm bends while they were on the field dominated the match throughout and struck once in the first –half and twice in the second-half to pick up three points from the match. Boys’ Union, for whom nothing has gone right in the tournament so far, did play some positive brand of soccer after the lemon break. The first half belonged to Friends Club though they found the target in the 45 minutes, through Navin Byanjankar. The second half began on an ominous note with Boys Union making a high spirited effort to get back into the match. However, Boys Union fight back received a major setback when Friends Club got another goal in the 61 minutes through Nabin again. In the 67minutes, Arjun Lama level the score for Boys Union. Though the joy for getting back into the picture was put to the end as Bill Tamang enlarged the margin for Friends Club in the 78 minutes. Towards the fag end of the match, Boys Union got another goal against the run of the play when Vijay Maharjan scored from the close range. Other Stories |
