Anniversary of Krishna Prasad Koirala marked

Biratnagar, Mar. 4 (RSS):On the occasion of the third anniversary of Pitaji Krishna Prasad Koirala Memorial Council, Biratnagar, academician Mrs. Dev Kumari Thapa and social worker Narayan Prasad Koirala presented the Pitaji Krishna Prasad Koirala Education prize to seven students of Morang district and cash prizes and certificates to the winners of various competitions organised on the occasion.

The awarded students include those passing with highest marks in S.L.C. examinations from the seven constitutencies of Morang district.

Likewise, seven students passing with highest marks in class eight under Morang district board examinations from the seven constituencies also received prizes and certificates on the occasion.

Council president Markandeya Acharya presided.


Khotang District Council members boycott meeting

Khotang, Mar. 4 (RSS): Members of the district council boycotted its meeting yesterday in protest at not being given a satisfactory answer by officiating District Education Officer Uddhav Bista to queries made by the members when a working paper was being presented on March 2.

They compelled  Bista to stand at the rostrum for nearly five hours throwing a string of questions at him regarding politicising the school management committees for primary schools of the district and nominating of persons who have already died or have gone abroad for employment as chairmen of such committees.

Although an all party committee including representatives from the district council, the chief district officer, the deputy police superintendent and local development officer has been formed to settle the dispute, Bista was adamant that things have been carried out in accordance with the education act and regulations could not be altered.

“What I have done is in consonance with the existing laws and regulations. Some issues were corrected on time after they came into notice. If somebody committed mistakes, legal remedy should be resorted to”, he retorts.


Tamrakar stresses spirituality

Kathmandu, Mar. 4 (RSS): Minister for Commerce Ram Krishna Tamrakar inaugurated a week long programme organised by Brahma Kumari Raj Yog Service Centre on the occasion of Mahashivaratri by hoisting a Shiva flag.

On the occasion, Minister Tamrakar said that in the absense of spirituality the government and the politicians could not act for the betterement of society.

Member of the Raj Parishad Gajananda Agrawal noted that it is the duty of mankind to avoid bad and pursue pious deeds.

Judge at the apellate court Keshav Prasad Mainali observed that  the divinity of the almighty can be perceived only through clear vision.

During the function presided over by chairman of the centre Bramhma Kumari Raj Didi, other speakers including former state minister Aiswarya Lal Pradhananga also expressed their views.

It was informed at the function that the Prajapita Brahakumari Iswariya University has launched a variety of programmes today to convey the message about the importance and holiness of Mahashivaratri to people through its five thousand centres all over the world.


Nepal, India officials meet in Kailali

Dhangadhi, Mar. 4 (RSS): A security and goodwill meeting held here recently between the chiefs of local administration in Kailali and Khiri, the bordering districts of Nepal and India respectively, agreed on different matters pertaining to the resolution of a host of problems being faced by Nepalese businessmen on Indian territory.

According to the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, both the parties consented to allow the entry of Nepalese number plate vehicles into Lakhanau, Bareli, Pilibhit and Rupaidiya for a week with the permission of the district administration office Kailali, take initiative to extend the Indian bus service which is limited to Gauriphanta check point and put up  lists of contraband items at the respective customs offices.

They also agreed to convene meetings monthly between the security officers of both countries in order to exchange information of mutual interests, set up complaints and suggestion boxes at the check posts at Gauriphanta and Tikuniya in India as well as at Nepalese check points in order to avert mistreatment and hassles meted out by employees in  border areas and clamp down on illegal activities.

RPP workers told to be active for development

Kathmandu, Mar 4 (RSS): Central spokesman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa has said that the political ideology and principles adopted by the party were geared towards the welfare of the country and the people.

Mr. Thapa was inaugurating the third district council meeting of the RPP Dhading district committee and a party workers' gathering here on Thursday.

Calling upon the local party workers to dedicate at least three days to make the "RPP Amidst the People" special programme successful, he said  the party workers should take initiatives for resolving local and national level problems.

The responsibility of building a new and prosperous Nepal has ultimately fallen on the shoulders of the RPP, he opined and said the party was capable of fulfilling this onerous responsibility.

Addressing the programme RPP central member Budhiman Tamang, MP, said the party organisation would be strengthened and the party would win elections in future only if the party workers were dedicated and revolutionary in spirit.

RPP central member Bishwa Bandhu Thapa stressed that the party workers should be always dedicated to nationality, democracy and development with dignity and a degree of self-reliance.

Mr. Thapa and Mr. Tamang also felicitated 13 senior citizens and party workers at the programme presided over by RPP Dhading district president and central secretariat member Thakur Prasad Sharma.


Drinking water projects, underway in Sindhuli

Sindhuli, Mar 4 (RSS): A number of rural drinking water projects have been completed in different parts of Sindhuli district.

The Chisapani Drinking Water Project located at Ward No. 3 of Mahadevsthan village has been commissioned at the cost of Rs 450,000, it is learnt from the district water supply office.

Some 35 households of the locality will benefit from the project constructed with a financial assistance of Rs 350,000 from the community development programme, Sindhuli, a local non-governmental organisation and the rest met through local voluntary labour.

Similarly, the Khar Khola Drinking Water Project at Ward No. 5 of Dade Guranse Village has been constructed at the cost of Rs 75,000. Another drinking water project has been repaired at the same village at the cost of Rs 58,000.

Likewise, the Rs 283,000 Jhagare Garu Drinking Water Project has been also completed at  Ward No. 7, Netrakali VDC of the district.

The project, constructed with Rs 200,000 from the local VDC under the rural self-reliance programme and local voluntary labour, will benefit some 31 households in the area.

The Bhot Thum Drinking Water Project at Ward No. 3 of Bhot Thum VDC has also been completed at the cost of Rs 35,000, it is learnt from the district water supply office.


Painting contest on garbage problem held

Kathmandu, Mar 4:Ms. Mahima Singh of Nepal Adarsh High School, Ganabahal was adjudged the winner of the Inter School Painting Competition organised by Organisation for Children Development (ORCHID-Nepal) here Thursday to mark its third anniversary.

In the competition participated in by thirty-one (31) students of various schools of the Kathmandu Valley, Saroj Shrestha of Annapurna Higher Secondary School, Inbahal bagged the second prize while Ashish Tamrakar of Saraswoti Kunj Secondary School, Gyaneshwore stood third.

Similarly, the consolation prizes of the contest went to Suresh Prasad Shrestha of Bal Sewa Secondary School, Jhochhen and Ms Rakshya Shrestha of Saraswoti Kunj Secondary School, Gyaneswor.

Nepal's well renowned artists Krishna Manandhar, Rakesh Chandra Shrestha, and Ms. Chanda Shrestha were in the panel of judges that decided the winners of the painting competition.

The theme of the painting competition was 'Garbage Problem in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.'

"In view of the pressing garbage management problem in the metropolis, the need of the our is to create awareness towards it among our children, the pillars of the nation.

The present painting competition is one step towards this direction," ORCHID-Nepal president Trilochan Shrestha highlighted the purpose of the art competition. He was speaking at the prize distribution function organised after the competition at the premises of Shree Mahankal Secondary School.

At the same function, famous artist and campus chief of Fine Arts Campus Krishna Manandhar underlined the need for organising such art contests for children as they also contribute to enhancing their intellectual capabilities right from their childhood.

Coordinator of the painting competition Rabin Shrestha delivered a  vote of thanks in the programme where Rajesh Shrestha was the Master of Ceremony.

Letters of Participation were also given away to all the contestants. ORCHID-Nepal president also handed over to the students various stationary items donated by Kusumoto Mutsuko group (Kobe) and Aoishi Kazuhisa group (Tokyo).


A huge goitre extracted by operation

Bhadrapur, Mar 4 (RSS):

Doctors at local Mechi Zonal Hospital have removed a massive goitre from a patient without the use of anesthesia.

Senior surgeon at the hospital Dr. Prakash Rayamajhi conducted the operation for the removal of the goitre.

According to hospital sources, it took nearly 45 minutes for Dr. Rayamajhi to extricate the goitre of  Mrs. Urdi Chaudhari, 50, from Chandragadhi VDC, Ward No. 2 Deunia.

Dr. Rayamajhi, who has performed such operations on some 60 patients so far, said although he uses anesthesia for the operations, this case was quite different.

He said the operation on Mrs Chudhari was performed without the use of anesthesia taking into consideration the poor economic condition of the patient and the shortage of the chemical at the hospital.

Although it costs much for the operation, Dr. Rayamajhi has been conducting such operaions on economically poor patients for Rs 3-4 thousand only on grounds of humanitarian services.


Irrigation facilities to be Consolidated under NISP

Dhangadhi, Mar 4 (RSS):The District Irrigation Office Kailali is to initiate the work of repair and consolidation of the Rajabadhuwa Irrigation Project at Sadepani VDC in the current fiscal year under the Nepal Irrigation Sector Programme (NISP).

The irrigation project to be repaired and consolidated at a cost of Rs 21,109,848 will irrigate 368 hectares of land belonging to 600 households in Ward Nos. 2 and 3 of the VDC.

Under the project a dam will be constructed at Bahuraha Khola at Sadepani VDC and the old canal will be repaired.

Similarly, the Sonaha Ajaraili irrigation project of Munuwa VDC, Banbehada Irrigation Project in Chaumala VDC, and Patreni Irrigation Project in Mahanyal VDC will also be repaired under the same programme.

The Ajaraili Irrigation Project to be repaired at a cost of Rs 7,985,000 will irrigate 80 hectares of land belonging to 97 families at Ward No 6 of  Munuwa VDC.

Under the project, a dam will be constructed at Kulariya Khola and the old canal reconstructed.

Similarly, under the Banbehada Irrigation Project at Chaumala VDC, a dam will be constructed at Banbehada Khola near the East West Highway and the old canal repaired.

The irrigation project to be repaired at a cost of Rs 2,767,490 will irrigate 40 hectares belonging to 90 families in Ward No 8 of Chaumala VDC.

Similarly, the Patreni Irrigation Project is to be consolidated at a cost of Rs 1,349, 276, a dam will be constructed at Rajma Khola and the old canal repaired.

The project will irrigate 24 hectares belonging to 74 families at Ward No 8 of Mohanyal VDC.

Under the plans of the NISP launched with World Bank loan assistance and people's participation, work on the projects will be completed within the next fiscal year.
