It is a fact that men and women are two wheels of a
societal cart. A cart cannot work in the absence of a wheel. So womens role in the
development of a society is always crucial. But the bitter truth is that women are often
neglected in the Nepalese society. They are thought to be weaker, less important than men.
They have to work harder than men, they have no right to parental propertysons
get all the parental property but daughters hardly get any share of such property. Even in
schools and colleges boys outnumber the girls because it is tradition among many parents,
especially of rural areas, to send their daughters to work in the fields and sons to
school. In short women here are discriminated in every
sector though the Constitution of the Kingdom has granted equal rights to women. The
existing laws and regulations too are unable to empower women. Thus many women in country
are compelled to a live miserable life. The concerned authorities should do
something for the betterment of women folk. The women should also write and fight for
their rights. Yuwaraj Maharjan |
