‘Bring about economic prosperity’

Kathmandu, Oct. 31 (RSS): Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ram Krishna Tamrakar has said that government employees should work with a spirit of integrity, devotion and responsibility in order to consolidate democracy and bring about industrialisation and economic prosperity in the country.

Minister Tamrakar, who was inaugurating a two-day seminar held here today for chiefs of offices under the Department of Cottage and Small Industry, said as no substantial achievement would be made in the absence of integrity, dynamism and devotion on the part of government employees, they should strive to show their talent in the face of challenges that have arisen before the country in the changed context.

Training should be designed to develop entrepreneurship, make people self-reliant, generate employment opportunities and utilise the resources available within the country to a greater extent, he added.

He further underlined the need for the department to pay heed to the labour force required by overseas countries and to the smooth supply of raw materials from abroad.

Referring to the lack of quality enhancement in the field of cottage and small industries to date under the Ninth Plan in proportion to that registered during the Eighth Plan, member of the National Planning Commission Dr. Shankar Sharma expressed the view that the department should take measures to use the resources sanctioned to eradicate poverty.

Director general at the department Lilamani Poudel said the seminar was intended to help make services consumer-oriented, enhance quality and move towards lanuching a programme in this regard for the current fiscal year.

During the seminar, director at the department Krishna Prasad Adhikari presented a working paper on the present state of skill development training, another director Komal Prasad Palikhe presented one on industrial management and services for the general public, and senior divisional mechanical engineer Bijay Kumar Sarraf one on industrial promotion and its environment.

Altogether 40 persons from among chiefs of cottage and small industry offices of 27 districts, project chiefs at the central level and officials from the department took part in the seminar.
