Meet on small, medium industry held Butwal, Nov. 3 (RSS): Acting president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (fncci) Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, while inaugurating a seminar on Resource Management for the Development of Small and Medium Sized Industries organised at Bhairahawa recently under the initiative of the Good Governance and Development Centre of the fncci and the Siddharthanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that 75 per cent of small and medium sized industries are in a state of confusion. Shrestha stressed the need to put into practice policies and regulations for the development of the economy and the sector, while emphasising the formulation of such regulations for the benefit of small and medium size industries which have gone bankrupt or closed down. He also stressed the need of national consensus in the formulation of long term plans. President of the Good Governance and Development Centre Dr. Biswo Keshar Maskey emphasised the need of new strategy for making small and medium industries more advanced and efficient. Chairman of the fncci Human Resources Development Committee Pradip Man Baidya opined that mafia elements have ruled the roost in all sectors in Nepal because of advance vat and income tax. Chairman of the fncci Rrade Fair Committee Krishna Muni Tamrakar said the state of established industries is vulnerable because of the tendency of imitation on the part of industrialists as well as vagueness in government policies. Chairman of the Cottage and Small Industries Committee Rajendra Bahadur Pradhan called for proper policies for small and medium sized industries. Central member of the Employment Council at the fncci Nidhan Chanda Shrestha expressed concern over the gradual closing down of small and medium sized industries. Deputy Mayor of Siddharthanagar Municipality Hari Adhikari stressed the need for a changed outlook towards industry on the part of the government. Speaking from the chair, president of Siddharthanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dhruba Kumar Shrestha said that there are 30, 464 cottage and small scale industries and they provide employment to 72,000 people. Also speaking on the occasion were cdo gyan Kaji Shakya, journalist Dilip Bhattarai and president of the Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arjun Man Sainju. Altogether 40 representatives from 12 chambers of commerce and industry from all over the Kingdom have been taking part in the seminar. Other Stories |
