Now it’s upto Maoists if they want to talk: PM

Biratnagar, Nov. 4 (RSS): Prime Minister and Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala has said now that the government has fulfilled the demands of Maoists for holding talks, it is up to the Maoists whether or not to give a push to the talks.

Talking to local journalists at his own residence here today, Mr Koirala noted that His Majesty’s Government has now opened the door for talks with the Maoists.

The demands of the Maoists have been fulfilled and if they interpret it as a ploy we cannot help it, he added.

As regards the charges that the Maoists at a press meet in Kathmandu yesterday were forced to issue a statement, he observed that pressures in politics do not work.

"During my 55 years of political career I have not worked under anyone’s pressure," he further said.

The NC leadership after the forthcoming general convention will come to a better track, said the NC chief adding, "as regards my candidacy for the post of party president, nothing can be said now; this will depend on how the situation unfolds".

Minister for Education and Sports Amod Prasad Upadhyaya, NC Morang district president Ashok Koirala and others were present at the airport to welcome the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will also attend various programmes to be held in Morang and Sunsari districts on Nov 5 and 6.

Mr Koirala will return to Kathmandu on Nov 6.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is scheduled to inaugurate the ‘Barahachhetra Mahotsav’ (festival) to be organised from November 5 to 12 at Durbasaghat, Chatara in Sunsari district, tomorrow, a report from Inaruwa said.

All preparations for the programme has been completed, the DDC chairman of Sunsari Arabind Prasad Mehata told RSS, today.

The Sunsari DDC is organising the Mahotsav with the objective of introducing the tourism sites in Sunsari to the world by highlighting the religious importance of Barahachhetra which is one of the four major pilgrimage sites for Hindus.

Proper arrangements for road and transport facilities to reach Barahachhetra have been completed, Mehata informed.

As per the programme of the Mahotsav, Baraha Puran, Bishnu Puran and recitals of stories will be held daily by renowned Hinduism scholars.

Radio Nepal will broadcast live the inaugural programme of the festival.

A religious awareness march began yesterday from Barahachhetra to make the festival a success.
