Use technical skill for self-employment, says Sushil

Nepalgunj, Nov. 12 (RSS): Nepali Congress General Secretary Sushil Koirala, MP, inaugurated diploma electrical engineering classes at Bheri Technical School here today.

Twenty-three tranees are taking the three-year electrical engineering course.

On the occasion, General Secretary Koirala said if it was possible for one to acquire technical skill and knowledge at home this could help remove unemployment problems. He also urged the students to use technical skill and knowledge from the technical school in getting self-employed.

He also expressed his resolve to work for the development of education, agriculture, irrigation, transport and other sectors in the district.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Population and Environment Shivaraj Joshi, while describing population growth as a factor responsible for unemployment problem, said technical education would go a long way resolving the problem as well as in poverty alleviation.

MP Kailashnath Kasodhan noted that unemployment problem was on the rise in this part of the country because of the lack of technical knowledge and skill.

Banke DDC chairman Omprakash Rana shed light on the importance of technical education.

Bheri Technical School chairman and CDO Shyam Prasad Mainali said the school aimed to impart technical knowledge to the youths so that they might get jobs.

On the occasion, chief of the school Chandra Bhakta Nakarmi and deputy chief Surya Kadel spoke on the activities of the school.

Education Director Gajendra Lal Pradhan and social worker Narbada Sharma also expressed their views at the inaugural function chaired by Technical School and vocational training council, skill test division director Harihar Thapa.


Concern over elusive talks with Maoists

Kathmandu, Nov. 12 (RSS): Thirty-six delegates from various associations and institutions and individuals working for the cause of human rights, rule of law and democracy in Nepal have expressed deep concern over the obtaining condition of the country and over the deterioration of the atmosphere for talks between the government and the Maoists.

In their joint appeal, they say it is the responsibility of the legitimately constituted government to resolve the problems of the country, be it political or economic, or social or cultural and for this reasons, the government itself should take special initiative to bring the Maoists across the negotiating table.

They also requested both the government and the Maoists follow the path of negotiation without delay in order to resolve problem.

They also demand that in order to prepare a climate conducive to a dialogue, the government make public those arrested, under detention, the missing ones and those killed in action since the beginning of the people's democratic movement to date.

While calling on the government to take action against any one guilty to human rights violations, to release the detenus and give compensation for the aggrieved ones, they also demand that the government appoint particular officials and units for such dialogue and arrange for the security of the Maoists representatives to it.

Calling on the both sides declare a truce during the period of dialogue, they say they are prepared to play a co-operative role as per necessity in a result-oriented talk.

They also requested both the government Maoists to protect the innocent and immediately stop such activities as detention, abduction, torture, killing etc. In keeping with the Geneva Convention-1949 and start the process of dialogue to seek a permanent solution to the problems facing the country.

The joint appeal was signed by ex-speaker of the House of Representatives Damannath Dhungana, ex-minister Dr. Mathura Prasad Shrestha, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Shailendra Kumar Upadhyaya, senior advocate Sindhunath Pyakurel, others including journalists, campus teachers, human right advocates.
