Possible areas of Nepal China trade discussed Kathmandu, Nov. 17 (RSS): Talks were held between the office-bearers of the Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and officials of the various Chinese authorities on exploring possible areas of co-operation on trade and on economy of both countries during the West Lake Expo, 2000 held at Hangzhou, Zhejiyan Province of China. The nepalese delegation led by chamber's treasurer Prakash Tamrakar also held talks with deputy mayor of the Hangzhou sub-metropolis on the promotion of bilateral trade. The Nepalese delegation and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hangzhou Sub-Council entered into a memorandum of understanding on making Nepalese Products accessible in the Chinese market. Talks were mainly focused on import and export of products of both countries such as food grains, pashmina and silk, machinery and equipment and handicraft items. Nepalese products were exhibited at the West Lake Expo-2000 organised by Lalitpur Chamber of Industry and Commerce at Hangchao Province of the People's Republic of China. A nine member team led by treasurer of the Lalitpur Chamber of Industry and Commerce returned home after taking part in the West Lake Expo-2000. Expo was participated in by the industries of Hangchou Province as well as Japan, the Phillipines, Korea, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, Israel and other countries having friendly relations with Hangchou Province. The Nepalese goods exhibited at the West Lake Expo-2000 had atttracted the Chinese consumers, according to the Lalitpur Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Nepalese Silver Jewelry, Handicrafts, Nepalese caps, bronze idols and other products were the main attractions of the Chinese consumers. Lalitpur Chamber of Industry and Commerce had organised the West Lake Expo-2000 at the request of the Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City taking into consideration the relations between the sub-metropolitan city and Hangchou Province. The Nepalese team also visited Shanghai and Inner Mongolia and exchanged views with the concerned bodies on the possibilities of expanding bilateral trade. |
