Bee-keeping commercially beneficial in Dolakha Charikot, Nov. 19 (RSS): Farmers of Dolakha district have been attracted towards the bee-keeping because it is commercially beneficial. With the launching of a pocket are programme in bee keeping in Gairimudi and Mirge VDCs, local farmers have been paying much attention to this calling. Farmers who has been engaged in bee-keeping since 2055 BS have been able to accommodate additional bee hives, it is stated by the District Agricultural Development Office, Dolakha. Farmers of both VDCs currently have a total of 127 hives. According to horticulture development officer Bharat Bahadur Acharya, about 300 families of both VDCs have been involved in bee-keeping and a total of 250 bee-hives have been made available to them to date. Local farmers, who have been divided into four groups, were able to produce about 1,000 kg of honey and generate a turn over of over Rs. 200,000. As bee-keeping requires cultivation of vegetable as well as fruits, local farmers have started to cultivate vegetables and citrus fruits also. We have no problem in finding a market for our output these days and we can support our familiers without any difficulty through this calling, they said. The District Agricultural Development Office has been subsidising the bee-keeping with loans and making modern bee-hives available to the farmers in both VDCs. There is a plan to expand bee-keeping to Bhimeswar Municipality as well as Sundrawati, Sunkhani and Pawati VDCs in the near future. Concern expressed over import of inedible rice Butwal, Nov. 19 (RSS): Inaugurating the first general meeting of the Consumers Interest Protection Forum, Rupandehi Unit, here, MP Surya Prasad Paradhan says every one should voice serious concern over continued import of inedible rice from india as it will have serious impact on our public health. Central general secretary of Consumers Interest Protection Forum Nepal, Sitaram Maskey said no prejudicial treatment should be meted out to any one for ones creed. Mayor of Butwal, Bhoj Prasad Shrestha called for co-operation of all associations and institutions in checking food adulteration and in keeping price lists at every shops. The District Development Committee (DDC) member Shiva Subedi called for greater public vigilance against food adulteration. Rupandehi Industrial Association chairman Mahendra Narayan Shrestha the import into Nepal of the same rice which was once declared inedible by the Indian Parliament had created problems in the country. Vice chairman of Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ambu Babu Shrestha said Indian markets had dominance over Nepal market because of the open border. Co-ordinator of the Forum Norbu Lama presided over the inaugural function. |
