With the launching of a pocket are programme in bee keeping in Gairimudi and Mirge VDCs, local farmers have been paying much attention to this calling.

Farmers who has been engaged in bee-keeping since 2055 BS have been able to accommodate additional bee hives, it is stated by the District Agricultural Development Office, Dolakha.

Farmers of both VDCs currently have a total of 127 hives.

According to horticulture development officer Bharat Bahadur Acharya, about 300 families of both VDCs have been involved in bee-keeping and a total of 250 bee-hives have been made available to them to date.

Local farmers, who have been divided into four groups, were able to produce about 1,000 kg of honey and generate a turn over of over Rs. 200,000.

As bee-keeping requires cultivation of vegetable as well as fruits, local farmers have started to cultivate vegetables and citrus fruits also.

We have no problem in finding a market for our output these days and we can support our familiers without any difficulty through this calling, they said.

The District Agricultural Development Office has been subsidising the bee-keeping with loans and making modern bee-hives available to the farmers in both VDCs.

There is a plan to expand bee-keeping to Bhimeswar Municipality as well as Sundrawati, Sunkhani and Pawati VDCs in the near future.
