Technology highlights in expo urged

Butwal, Nov. 21 (RSS): The advisory committee for the National Industrial Exhibition-2057 BS., concluded its meeting here Monday with valuable suggestions on how to make the exhibition a success.

Addressing the meeting, MP Surya Prasad Pradhan said modern technology should be one of the main highlights of the sixth exhibition to be organised by Rupandehi Industrial Association.

While noting that indigenous industries were upholding national prestige, he said it was necessary to maintain national standards and the exhibition, like in the past years, would be undoubtedly successful this time also.

District Development Committee vice chairman Ramchandra Dhakal pledged the District Development Committee’s full support for the National Industrial Exhibition.

Mayor of Butwal, Bhoj Prasad Shrestha, hoped that exhibition would be production-oriented and contribute to enhancing the glory of the town.

Ex-MP Rana Bahadur Shah said that even those with brave hearts would be moved to tears while talking of industries.

Industrial exhibition would play significant role at a time when the government was paying little attention to industries, he added.

Chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arjun Man Sainju said Rupandehi Industrial Association and the chamber of commerce had no difference of opinion and would extend all-out support for the success of the exhibition.

Another speaker Prof. Ramlal Shrestha suggested that national level industries should be invited to take part in the exhibition.

Kamal Gyawali, D. S. P. Jagat Bahadur Bista, Kul Bahadur Bhari, Babu Ram Bhattarai, Dal Bahadur G. C. also gave their suggestions.

Joint co-ordinator of the association Paramananda Kharel, on behalf of the chief organising committee, delivered a welcome speech, while recent past chairman Shyam Bahadur Pathak proposed a vote of thanks.

Member secretary of the association Ajaya Man Shrestha presented a progress of the exhibition.


‘Cooperatives mobilise idle money for people’

Syangja, Nov. 21 (RSS): MP Gopal Man Shrestha recently inaugurated here Chandikalika Saving and Credit Co-operative Ltd. set up by local thirty-one industrialists and social workers.

On the occasion, MP Shrestha said co-operative institution of the kind would help mobilise idle money for productive and service-oriented activities.

"Foreign banks are thriving while old banks like Nepal Bank Limited and Rastriya Banjya Bank are facing crises in the country at this time," he noted, hoping that under such circumstances, establishment of financial institutions in co-operative sector would help promote co-operative movement.

District Development Committee chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa, district court judge Krishna Prasad Bastola, and various other speakers also expressed their views on co-operative movement.

At the function, MP Shrestha gave away share certificates to 31 founder members of the credit co-operatives. Chairman of the co-operative institution Mahesh Kumar Shrestha presided.


Auto Show to kick off today

Kathmandu, Nov. 21: Global Exposition and Management Services (GEMS) is to host a five-day auto show at Bhrikuti Mandap, beginning November 22.

Organised in co-operation with Nepal Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA), the ‘2nd Auto Show 2000’ will bring together about four dozen domestic and foreign organisations in the automobile sector.

The participating companies, among others, are Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Hyundai, Daewoo, Tata, Maruti, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hulas Sherpa, Yamaha, Hero Honda and Kawasaki Bajaj.

"The show aims at providing an ideal forum to Nepalese and foreign automobile dealers to market their products and services and to explore mutually beneficial opportunities," GEMS Chief Executive Vijay Chhetri told a press meet here Monday.

"Besides, it will provide the potential buyers a special opportunity to see, compare and choose the products they like," he added.

The event is to showcase the latest models of passenger cars, utility vehicles, trucks and buses, two and three wheelers, accessories, air-condition equipment, electrical components and sub-assemblies, environment friendly and safety equipment, tyres and tubes, fuels, batteries, lubricants and cleaning systems. "One special feature of the 2nd Auto Show is the participation of the finance institutions," Chhetri said. Nepal Grindlays Bank and Union Finance have registered themselves for participation.

The show will also feature a seminar on ‘How to Control Pollution and Congestion in Metropolitan Cities’. It is to be held on November 24 at Hotel Yak and Yeti.

The organisers said that the five-day show was expected to be visited by 75,000 people. The first show held in November 1998 had attracted 40,000 visitors where more than five hundred motorcycles and over a dozen of cars were booked.

Nepal annually imports over three billion rupees worth of automobiles and spare parts which amounts to more than five per cent of the total national import.

Motorcycle import tops the list with about 12,000 units per annum followed by some 2,000 cars, 1,500 trucks and buses, and 700 multiple utility vehicles.

"Automobile import and sales has shown a rising trend," NADA General Secretary Jaya Singh Kothari said. "Its because the motor facility once considered to be a luxury has now turned into a necessity for many people."


Training to boost agro output

Bhadrapur, Nov. 21 (RSS): Minister of State for Commerce Narendra Bikram Nemwang has said that as the economy of the country is dependent on agriculture, the Integrated Parasite Management (IPM) training is very significant for boosting agricultural output.

Inaugurating a programme concerning Integrated Parasite Management organised by Jhapa District Agriculture Development Office at Janajyoti High School Of Chandragadhi Village Development Committee (VDC), Mr. Nemwang said that IPM training was inevitable to deal with the problems faced by the farmers and increase production even without the use of pesticides.

Calling upon the farmers to teach the knowledge gained from the training to others also, he said that IPM training was necessitated to boost productivity without the use of pesticide which has adverse effect on the foodgrains and ultimately human beings consuming it.

Head of the Jhapa District Agriculture Development Office Dwarika Prasad Dahal also expressed his views at the programme chaired by Chandragadhi VDC chairman Durga Prasad Bhattarai.
