I visited Nepal from October 30 through November 6 this year and enjoyed the magnificent view of Himalayas. I also got the chance to meet tenderhearted Nepalese people and was impressed by the spectacular view of Mt. Annapurna and Machhapuchhre dimly lighted by the half moon. I am 68 and probably this would be my last visit to Nepal because of old age.But I earnestly hope to visit again. However, while in Nepal, I had two bitter experiences. One was when I passed through the security check at the Kathmandu airport. The officer in charge took out my money and demanded five dollars. Of course, I rejected. Surely the officials duty is to secure passengers safety by finding out knife and other weapons--and not to take special interest in foreigners money ! Why is such wrongdoing being permitted in your country? Such officers are fired instantly in Japan. I sincerely hope they will never torments foreigners liek me again. The other oen was when my favourite radio was stolen. I had put the radio in the pocket of my backpack and let the proter carry the bag on the last day of our Himalayan tour because I was run-down due to severe diarrhoea. Returning home, I found that my radio and Swiss army knife were gone. This radio was given to me by my son as present when he graduated from college and got his first salary. The price of the radio was 54,000 Yen and it can receive LM, MW, SW, FM from all over the world. Although Japanese peopel are richer than Nepalese, in Japan, prices are high. And for old people living on pension, life is not easy. It is difficult to buy such expensive radio again. I have given up hope of getting back the radio. But I sincerely hope that when I visit Nepal again in future, such robbery will never happen again. Nakano Akihiko Other Story |
