Wedding Procession Causes Traffic Jam

The matrimonial season has set in. One can witness numerous wedding processions in the capital these days. The procession includes ear-piercing band marching along with a large number of people (called janti in Nepali), some walking and some in vehicles. The marriage procession takes place two times during the ceremony: while going to the bride’s house and while returning to the bridegroom’s house.

Though it is a sacred Hindu ritual, it shockingly adds to the already jam-packed traffic flow in the congested streets of Kathmandu. Furthermore, frequentt visits by the foreign delegates add to the woes of the common citizens.

Therefore, the concerned authority should do something to ensure a smooth traffic flow so that the ordinary citizens would have not have to bear with the agony of being stranded in the crowd of endless vehicles, many a time being late for work and other businesses.
