ML preparing to elect new leadership Kathmandu, Nov. 26 (RSS): CPN-ML general secretary Bamdev Gautam said that the national convention of the party will evaluate the partys performance of the past three years, elect a new leadership and make important decision on matters relating to the extensive utilization of the multi-party system in the interest of the people. Speaking at a programme organised here today by Reporters Club Nepal, Mr. Gautam said the CPN-ML will never break up because it is united and led by communists who are dedicated to strengthen the communist movement through principle, ideology and philosophy. The CPN-ML is also of the conviction that the present constitution should be amended and extensive improvements made in the system, he added. Stating that the people in the country today want peace, tolerance and development, he urged the Maoists to leave the path of murder and violence. Put Buddhas message into practice: PM Lalitpur, Nov. 26 (RSS): Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has stressed the need to translate Lord Gautam Buddhas message of peace and nonviolence into practice so as to rid the country and the people of the ongoing violence and terror. Prime Minister Koirala, who was addressing the concluding function of the weekly programme organized on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Bauddha Bihar Sangh at Aksheshwor Mahabihar today, said that it is the reasoning power that makes man a real human being. Describing Lalitpur as a centre of traditional Nepalese art, the Prime Minister said it is our duty to preserve and promote this invaluable asset. The Prime Minister also said that he was highly impressed by the young artists works of art displayed at the Aksheshwor Mahabihar. He also urged Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur municipalities to cooperate in giving the tourists visiting Nepal the message of world peace by helping his plan to erect a lofty idol of Lord Buddha at Tinkune materialize. The Prime Minister also gave away letters of commendations to those contributing to the success of the silver jubilee celebrations. From the chair, president of the Bauddha Bihar Sangh and mayor of Lalitpur Buddhiraj Bajracharya disclosed a plan to construct an ent hospital at Aksheshwor Mahabihar and build a park on its premises. Vice president of the Sangh Prof. Asharam Shakya stressed the need for the government to encourage traditional Nepalese art industry. The Prime Minister also inspected the Buddhist art exhibition organized marking the same occasion. Lalitpur, Nov. 26 (RSS): Former prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has been unanimously elected representative to Nepali Congress Mahasamiti and Mahadhiveshan. His election came at the convention of N. C. Lalitpur district constituency No. 3 here today. Likewise, ex-minister Omkar Prasad Shrestha and ex-central general secretary Basudev Risal have been unanimously elected to Mahasamiti and Mahadhiveshan from Lalitpur constituency No. 3 and 2 respectively. In Siraha, Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav has been elected unopposed Nepali Congress general convention representative and general committee member from Siraha constituency-2. Likewise, MP Amiya Kumar Yadav has been elected unopposed general convention representative and general committee member from constituency-2 of the same district. Ex-minister of state Padma Narayan Chaudhari has been elected general convention representative and general committee member from Siraha constituency-1. Similarly, ex-MP Surendra Kumar Das has been elected general committee member from Siraha constituency-3. In Inaruwa, chairperson of the Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust, Sujata Koirala has been elected the member of the Nepali Congress general convention unopposed from Sunsari constituency-5. Acting president of the Nepali Congress Sunsari district committee Hari Prasad Sapkota, Sitaram Mehta and Jaya Prakash Chaudhari have also been elected from the same constituency. Similarly, MP Hari Prasad Sapkota, Sitaram Mehta and Jaya Prakash Chaudhari have been elected the general convention members. MPs Prakash Koirala and Laxman Mehta and Jaya Prakash Chaudhari have been elected members to the general convention from constituency-4 of the district. Similarly, MPs Prakash Koirala and Laxman Prasad Mehata and Agam Lal Chaudhari have been elected unopposed Mahasamiti members from constituency -3, Hem Narayan Chaudhari, Bhadra Lal Udhas and Uttam Sapkota from constituency-2 and Bhisma Kafle, Giri Raj Acharya and Govinda Subba from constituency-1. Temple Tiger best green resort for 2000 BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, Nov. 26: Temple Tiger Jungle Lodges and Wildlife Camps has been adjudged the Best Green Resort for the Year 2000 by Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA). Basanta Raj Mishra, Ex-Board Memeber of Nepal Tourism Board and Executive Chairman of Temple Tiger Jungle Lodges and Wildlife Camps, was presented the award by Tom Nutley, Managing Director of Reed Travel Exhibition on November 15, 2000 on the occasion of World Travel Market 2000 held at Earls Court, London, the UK, according to a NTB press statement. Diwakar Rana, Assistant Manager, Nepal Tourism Board received the award on behalf of Mishra at a seminar Green is the Future for Tourism held to mark the ceremony. On the occasion Nutley said that the environment issues were of utmost importance to the travel tourism industry. Even WTM was following the 10 points prescribed by the Gree Globe, he said. He applauded PATWA for initiating Green awards that would further promote and recognize entrepreneurs who promoted the environmental cause while running their business. PATWA has been presenting this annual award to individuals and companies who have made significant contribution in promoting tourism in the Asia Pacific region. Speaking at the award ceremony, Sagar Alhuwalia, Secretary General of PATWA said that Temple Tiger had been chosen for this years award not only for their outstanding record as one of the best resorts of Nepal but also for their emphasis on environment and green issues while running the property. |
