His Majesty felicitates

Kathmandu, Oct. 1 (RSS): His Majesty the King has extended cordial felicitations to President Jiang Zemin of the People’s Republic of China on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

In a message of felicitations, His Majesty has expressed best wishes for the President’s personal health and happiness and for the continued progress and prosperity of the People’s Republic of China.

His Majesty has also expressed confidence that the friendly relations between the two countries will grow further in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, His Majesty the King has extended cordial felicitations to President Glafcos Clerides on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus.

In a message of felicitations, His Majesty has expressed best wishes for the President’s personal health and happiness and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Cyprus.

Likewise, His Majesty the King has extended cordial felicitations to President, Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces Olusegun Obasanjo of Federal Republic of Nigeria on the occasion of the National Day of Nigeria.

In a message of felicitations, His Majesty has also expressed best wishes for the President’s personal health and happiness and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Nigeria.


Rural energy system discussed

Kathmandu, Sept. 30 (RSS): An international classroom programme for rural energy systems jointly organised by Rural Energy Development Programme (REDP), a joint initiative of His Majesty’s Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP,) and the international MSC programme of sustainable energy systems management (SESAME) of the University of Flensburg, Germany concluded here recently.

The main aim of the six week programme was the introduction and application of suitable tools for project monitoring and evaluation with the emphasis on projects related to rural energy for the development of the rural economy and society.

The programme took a holistic view of the rural development process with all aspects under technical, economic, ecological and social prespectives being applied. It involved the impact of energy initiatives on rural productivity, rural livelihood, capacity building and participatory action.

Fifteen persons from Nepal, Ethiopia, India, China, Germany, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Madagascar and Indonesia participated in the programme. The staff of the REDP also participated.

The participants made a field visit of REDP programmes at Pyughar and Firfire in Tanahun district for project planning, monitoring and evaluation.

Resource persons for the programme came from ICIMOD, REDP, LGP, SESAM, UNDP, SAPPROS and PDDP.

UNDP in Nepal and the University of Flensburg have enetered a partnership to foster academic, technical and intercultural exchange in areas of mutual interest including decentralised energy planning, environmental issues, capacity building and consultancy and research and development.
