Make Children Aware Of Environment The growing pollution in Nepal is likely to pose a threat to future. And children are more likely to suffer the most. The government must formulate plans for making the children aware of protecting environment by including it in the per-schol and primary level. Similarly, the government must formulate laws and programmes that will help in eradicating pollution. On the other and an equally vital level the government, along with numberous private organisations must direct their efforts at the children themselves. They should be encouraged to become agents of change by engaging in the work of imporving their surroundings. These agencies must make the children feel that they are the part of nature and have a stake in its preservation. At the primary level let the environmental education begin by teaching the children to develop a love for nature. Let them be taught how to care for plants and pets at home and at schools. At the secondary level, let a separate subject regarding environment be incorporated in their syllabus. Schools should organise special field trips to areas like the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) which is a novel scheme of its own. Such trips will expose children who could undrestand the nature all by themselves. In short we must now make childen aware of the grave consequences of the rapidly deteriorationg envrionment and help them develop a sort of concern for it. Only through these efforts can we inject a taste for environmental protection into the future generation. Gaurav Sharma |
