HM wishes Mohan Kanya Schools success Tansen, Sept 2 (RSS): Mohan Kanya Secondary School, the leading school in womens education in West Nepal, observed its golden jubilee by organising various programmes yesterday. In a message, His Majesty the King has expressed happiness at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the school by organising various programmes. Stating that the role of the school in promoting womens education in Nepal has been remarkable, His Majesty wished for the schools success in its future endeavours. Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, in a similar message, wished that the school would succeed in making substantial contribution to womens education in Nepal. Similarly, Minister for Education and Sports Amod Prasad Upadhyaya and Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Mrs Kamala Pant have wished for the prosperity of the school. Minister of State for Education and Sports Dilendra Prasad Badu, while inaugurating the celebrations here yesterday, said His Majestys Government is determined to provide help for the progress and prosperity of the school which had launched womens education even during Rana time. Stating that the school has been chosen for operating 10+2 classes, Mr Badu noted that this will give a new dimension to womens education. The present government is making every effort to clear distortions and anomalies plaguing the education sector, he said adding, the government is prepared to secure the rights and interests of teachers, and teachers should become responsible for building the future of students. MP Yadav Bahadur Rayamajhi expressed the view that the education sector is now in the doldrums due to lack of clear-cut educational policies, adding, though some efforts have been made to improve this sector, adjustment of teacher quota has given rise to various suspicious. Palpa DDC chairman Jhapendra Bahadur G. C., Tansen mayor and many others also spoke at the function chaired by chairman of the school management committee and the Golden Jubilee celebration committee Chhatraraj Shakya. On the occasion, letters of honour were given to Tansen Municipality, founder secretary Begmati Pradhan, Bhagawati Maya Kakshyapati snd Renuka Shrestha who donated money and various other persons who instituted 14 awards, the Dirgha Sewa Vishesh Padak to school headmaster Dev Prasad Bajracharya, Dirghasewa Padak to assistant headmaster Dwarika Prasad Sharma, and cash prizes and certificates to teachers and employees of the school. Uphold norms of journalism: Gupta Kathmandu, Sept. 2 (RSS): Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta has said the press should show seriousness in matters of national concern by upholding journalistic norms and values. Mr Gupta was inaugurating the ninth anniversary of Chandeshowri Publications Pvt. Ltd. and the joint celebrations of Janasatta vernacular weekly, and Prabhatkalin and Sandhyakalin dailies today. Urging journalists to cover news honestly and correctly, he noted that the government expects cooperation from the press in the promotion of fundamental components of democracy. Nowhere is found in the world history that power can be established by using force and ignoring the obtaining political situation, said the minister, adding that the journalists who are actively involved in promoting and strengthening democracy should not abet violence and murder. Noting that the insular thinking that does not accept others views and regards ones own as the best and without alternative has already been rejected in the world, he said power cannot be achieved through terrorism and violence. Mr Gupta presented the "Chandeshwori Kishriraman Rana Memorial Award for Working Journalists" to reporter Gopi Budha of Nepalgunj. The award carries a purse of Rs 5,000. On the occasion, Minister Gutpa honoured Ram Sanjel, sub-editors Prem Dahal and Sanukaji Shrestha and reporters Resham Paudel (Kathmandu), Brahmadev Yadav (Biratnagar), Rudra Sitaula (Jhapa), Dipak Adhikari (Makwanpur) and Sam Thapa (Kailali) for their contribution to news coverage by giving away letters of honour to them. Various other speakers including chairman of the Ltd Krishna Prasad Gautam, chief editor of the Janasatta vernacular weekly, president of Federation of Nepali Journalists Kathmandu Ishwori Wagle and many others also expressed their views on the occasion. Citizenship Act conflicts with Constitution Kathmandu, Sept. 2 (RSS): RPP president Surya Bahadur Thapa has said that the Citizenship Act-2056 has some provisions that are in contravention of the constitution. RPP president Thapa, who was speaking at a colloquium on "Citizenship Act-2056 in the context of Nepal" organised by National Democratic Youth Organisation, Kathmandu here today, described the act as a ploy to earn cheap popularity and bamboozle the people. Citizenship was an issue which could have been dealt with through a consensus but the government unnecessarily wielded its majority strength to pass the Citizenship Act, he alleged. Central member of the party and MP Ramchandra Raya was of the view that since the citizenship problem has remained unresolved RPP should come up with a clear stand on this issue. Jogmehar Shrestha, also an RPP central member, said that RPP is opposed to the act since the party wants to protect nationalism while consolidating democracy. The Act is likely to cause a setback to nationalism, he added. RPP Kathmandu district president Bikram Bahadur Thapa expressed the view that the Act compels a Nepali to bow down before a foreigner. President of the Youth Organisation Bhuvan Pathak alleged that the act has made it easier for foreigners to obtain Nepali citizenship. District president of the organisation Prakash Rimal presided. |
