Crown Prince opens S. Asia Wushu tourney Kathmandu, Sept. 6 (RSS):His Royal Highness Crown Prince Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the first South Asian Ushu Championship here today. HRH the Crown Prince also distributed medals to winners of the womens Ushu held on the occasion. HRH the Crown Prince is patron of the National Sports Council. In the first matches played today under the championship, Bina Lama of Nepal won first place with 9.l0 points, while D. Samarbikram of Sri Lanka took second place with 8.6 points and Mamta Budhathoki of Nepal placed third with 8.46 points. Speaking at the function, Minister for Education and Sports Amod Prasad Upadhyaya said that Ushu which has been played in Nepal since the past l3 years has become popular throughout the Kingdom. Nepal Olympic Committee chairman Rukma Shumsher Rana, National Sports Council member secretary Binod Shankar Palikhe and Nepal Ushu Association and South Asian Ushu Federation chairman Prasidha Bahadur Pandey also spoke on the occasion. Participating in the championship being held at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium by Nepal Ushu Association are 50 players from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as Nepal.
