MURDER is not politics and can never be politics. Politics of murder will not help reach any end as violence only propagates more violence, more crime. If anybody or any party wants political change in a democracy, why should there be a problem? In fact, democracy is all about political change. Those who resort to violence as a means of political change in a democracy do not represent peoples will, rather they exploit the system as well as the people as they are not sure of their own ideology. They are not sure of they have a following, if their ideology is supported by popular will. The insecurity about popularity of their thought, of what they stand for makes the factions like Maoists resort to violence. It is very obvious that the Maoists lack conviction to their own claims of ideology, or else how does one explain terrorism, the senseless killings that have been taking place in the name of peoples war. If it had really been a crusade backed by popular will crimes like murder and extortion would not be needed. Maoists would not have had to force their ideology on poor and uneducated villagers. They would not have had to lure children in their forces, which are motivated by purely mercenary method of survival. The Prime Minister, releasing a book recently has said that making Nepali Congressmen target of the killings by Maoists will not destroy the ideology of the Nepali Congress. Killing people will certainly not destroy and ideology or would reaffirm faith in any ideology for that matter. Murder will be just what it is, a crime. However, the unrest created by such acts of terror and violence will foster grounds for perpetration of more such violence. This is where we need stern government action as well as public opinion against terrorism and crime. People should be able to distinguish ideology that paves the way to development and prosperity and propaganda that only produces more misery. Popular opinion should be the one that votes for democracy and denounces politics of murder. Other Story |
