For National Development Koirala urges engineers to enhance efficiency Kathmandu, Apr. 11 (RSS): Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the technicians should give top priority to national development and poverty alleviation programmes and gear ahead their programmes. Prime Minister Koirala made this remark while inaugurating the 7th national convention of engineers organised by the Nepal Engineers Association (NEA) with the theme "Engineering professsion in nation building: Contribution and vision" and the regional seminar on "Harmonisation of engineering qualifications: Accredition and registration in FEISCA country" Jointly organised by NEA and Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central Asia (FEISCA) at the Birendra International Convention Center today. Referring to engineers as the pillars of the nation, Mr Koirala said that national development works cannot gain momentum if the engineers are not efficient. He stressed the need to enhance the efficiency of the technicians along with the development taking place in information technology for the development of the country. Prime Minister Koirala said that the civil service administrators, politicians and the engineers should gear ahead their programmes taking into consideration the uplift and development of the people as they are the focal point of everyone. Stating that the politicians and planners formulate plans and policies while the technicians implement such plans and policies effectively, Mr Koirala said that the technicians should gradually remove the weaknesses and anamolies seen in the past and carry out their responsibilities. Stating that the Nepalese technician only lacked a little self-confidence, Mr Koirala everyone concerned should serious in enhancing the enthusiasm of the technicians involved in the nation building task. On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala felicitated immediate past NEA president Bhojraj Regmi by wrapping him with a shawl and presenting him a letter of commendation for his remarkable contribution to the NEA. President of the World Federation of Engineering Organisation (WFEO) Prof. Jose Medem Sanjuan said that the engineers play a crucial role for the sustainable development of any country. Prof. Sanjuan said that the engineers have been playing a significant role in the development of nations through the medium of scientific technologies. Speaking from the chair NEA president Yub Raj Sharma stressed the need for all to rise above vest political interests and engage in development works of the country. Mr Sharma suggested that projects be selected and implemented through widespread peoples participation. NEA general secretary Hari Darshan Shrestha expressed the view that professional freedom cannot be enjoyed without improvement in democracy and professional development is not possible without freedom. Mr Shrestha stressed the need to set up an engineering staff college to enhance the efficiency of the engineers along with the development taking place in information technology. Chairman of the NEA technical committee Kishore Shakya said that the engineers should unite for their professional rights and welfare. Other Stories
