Constitutional actions help judiciary: CJ Lalitpur, Apr. 14 (RSS): Chief Justice Keshav Prasad Upadhyaya has said that the present challenges before the judiciary would be gradually lessened if the activities of all the organs of government were to be carried out according to the spirit and objectives inherent in the constitution. He said the challenges before the judiciary would be further lessened through the cooperation of all, coordination between all the organs of the government and the realisation of their responsibility by all concerned sides. The Chief Justice made this remark while addressing a seminar on " challenges of the present judiciary" organised by Nepal Lawyers Council on the first death anniversary of special lawyer and senior advocate Shambhu Prasad Gyawali here today. The judiciary has played an appreciable role after the promulgation of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-2047 in the context of other concerned bodies not being able to fulfill their roles and responsibilities to the desired extent, he observed. He further said it has become necessary to initiate concrete steps so as to enhance the responsibility of the lower courts for reducing the pressure of minor cases at the Supreme Court. From the chair, attorney general Badri Bahadur Karki said that the law courts in Nepal were still facing resource constraints and were having to do with old-style procedures and infrastructure even in the 21st century. Presenting a working paper on "challenges of the judiciary", senior advocate Daman Nath Dhungana said that speedy and fair justice is still a far cry for the common Nepali. He complained that justice was becoming expensive and it was breaking the back of the low-income section of society. Justice is not accessible for the poor, he said. On behalf of the council, advocate Radheshyam Adhikari shed light on the life and contributions of the late Gyawali. Other Stories
