We just came to know that the Royal Nepal Airlines is terminating its flights to Europe. It is another blow on Nepalese Economy. The national flag carrier has been carrying so many passengers from Europe to Nepal. There are thousands of People dependent on tourism. Our office alone sends over 1000 tourists to Nepal in a year and almost half of them fly in RNAC planes. It is clear that the decision-makers are more concerned with getting commission than welfare of the country and countrymen. That may be the reason why they are not interested in leasing or buying new aircraft. If they try to buy or lease-purchase aircraft just once in history without bargaining for commission, the aircraft can produce good yield. For the time being they can just continue flying to Frankfurt and back, doing which they can save about 10 hours of flight time. The passengers from London and Paris can be flown to Frankfurt or Dubai and Royal Nepal Airlines can be connected in these points. Are there any leaders or enlightened elite in Nepal who have some kind of feeling for the country? Are the decision-makers aware of the consequences resulting out of such a grave decision? What are Nepalese travel agents doing about it? What are the people who are mostly dependent on tourism doing? Once the Frankfurt slot is lost, RNAC will not be able to retake it. If your paper is interested to help the nation please collect public opinion and try to annul this harmful decision and ask the government to sack these irresponsible people from their post. Please also ask this government elected by the people if such a decision is in favour of their voters. P. D. Pande |
