Left leaders said to have met in Siligudhi

Birtamod (Jhapa), Aug. 16: There are talks in the political circle of several top communist leaders visiting Siligudhi in India yesterday and meeting with Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai talking to him about the talks between the government and the Maoists, broad Left unity and contemporary political issues.

Those who had visited the Siligudi were Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary of CPN-UML and leader of the main opposition party in the parliament, Narayan Man Bijukchhe, President of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Bamdev Gautam, General Secretary of CPN-ML, central committee member of UML Ishwor Pokharel, leader of the United People’s Front Lilamani Pokharel and MP Chitra Bahadur K.C. of the United People’s Front.

They had come to Bhadrapur yesterday and returned Kathmandu today. The UML and ML district committees confirmed the arrival of their leaders in Jhapa, but they expressed ignorance about the purpose or the itinerary of their 22-hour long visit.

However, talking to The Rising Nepal, UPF’s Pokharel said the UML General Secretary, Narayan Man Bijukchhe and he, himself, had gone to Kurseong, India. But he refused to say anything about the visit.

Meanwhile, Bijukchhe denied in Kathmandu today that they met with Dr. Bhattarai, the Maoist leader.
