Despite all efforts to revamp the ailing tourist industry, the problems stunting the growth of tourism in Nepal have not been addressed. It seems that the Nepali way of doing things is just to complain about the anomalies plaguing different sectors without caring to find out the root causes for them. Anybody strolling around the Tribhuvan International Airport would be surprised to see that the taxi drivers continue to taunt the tourists who step on the Nepalese soil after a long and tiring journey. The cops are there to put things right but they appear to be whiling away their time without even making an attempt to discourage the cab drivers from nagging the tourists. It is high time that the concerned authorities did something to stop the cab drivers from troubling the tourists at the airport. Unless earnest efforts are made to address this problem, tourism is bound to slide further in the days ahead. Prem Bahadur Kaini |
