Search operation goes on, terrorists arrested in dists

Kathmandu, Dec. 8: The Royal Nepalese Army has continued its search operation and in the process more suspected terrorists have been arrested.

The Defence Ministry today said one terrorist was killed yesterday in the jungle near Thamini River of Chisapani in eastern Bardia. A press release of the Ministry said the incident had happened when an army patrol team suddenly confronted armed terrorists in the jungle and after the army’s call for surrender was unheeded and were fired upon instead. In the subsequent exchange of fire one terrorist died on the spot.

The Ministry said the army has been carrying on its search operations in Chitwan and Gorkha districts and in the course several active members of the terrorists and some other suspected terrorists have been arrested. Those arrested are being investigated upon, it said.

In the meantime, the army has arrested 11 terrorists at Tarkhola area of Baglung district. In its search at the terrorists’ training site, the army also found different types of weapons, explosives, socket bombs, equipment used for making bombs and written documents related to terrorist activities.

The army’s bomb disposal units yesterday defused a cord bomb near Surya Vinayak in Bhaktapur and a socket bomb placed at the Agriculture Inputs Corporation in Bhojpur districts.
