Long-term SAARC perspective necessary: PM

Kathmandu, Dec. 11 (RSS): Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that a long-term perspective of regional cooperation should be formulated and implemented for the overall development of the SAARC region.

Inaugurating the conference on “SAARC in the 21st Century” organised by the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) based in Sri Lanka here today, Prime Minister Deuba said that “cooperation is the need of the present and a trend of the future” for addressing the common problems of rapid growth of population, slow progress of development and rising trends of ethnic, sectarian, regional and political conflicts taking place in the South Asia region.

On the occasion Deuba also wished RCSS all success in its endeavours.

At the function chaired by ambassador I. P. Khosla, executive director of RSSC Dipanker Banerjee and Professor Lok Raj Baral also expressed their views.
