Khadka alerts corpn chiefs for improvement

Kathmandu, Dec. 12: Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Purna Bahadur Khadka has directed the chairmen and general managers of the corporations under the Ministry to improve the weaknesses and deficiencies of the PEs within three months. "If not the management should bear the responsibilities of their failure," Minister Khadka alerted the executives.

A two-day workshop of the chairmen and general managers of the public enterprises under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies discussed about the various aspects of the Corporations.

The meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday chaired by Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Purna Bahadur Khadka, discussed point-wise about the conditions, activities, production, distribution, management, economic discipline, irregularities and the problems faced by those corporations.

At the meeting, Minister Khadka instructed all those of the management level to increase their professional ability to meet the objectives of the corporations.

He pointed out that majority of the Corporations are suffering from extreme condition of economic indiscipline, uncontrolled amount of irregularities, absence of auditing.

Prakash Bahadur Gurung, Minister of State for Industry, Commerce and Supply said the people are expecting the services and facilities from the government and the PEs, so it has become imperative for the public enterprises to provide their services efficiently.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary at the Ministry Bhanu Prasad Acharya and heads of the various departments and directorates of the Ministry.


16 Maoists surrender in Taplejung

Taplejung, Dec. 12 (RSS): Sixteen persons including four women involved in Maoist terrorist activities have surrended to Taplejung District Administration Office recently.

According to Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Poudel, those surrendering have pledged not to get involved in terrorist activities as the terrorist activities of the Maoists were not for the welfare of the people.

Most of the 16 persons surrendering to the district administration are members of the so-called village people’s government.

They include Sita Rai, Bhavana Bantawa, Sangeeta Bantawa, Junakala Bantawa, Kabindra Prasai, Man Bahadur Limbu, Bhim Bahadur Angyohang, Machendra Sanwa and Khemrak Adhikari.

A total of 29 Maoist terrorists have surrendered to the district administration so far.


Acharya to leave for Thimpu today

Kathmandu, Dec. 12 (RSS): Mahesh Acharya, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives and special envoy of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, is leaving tomorrow morning for Thimpu, Bhutan.

The minister will deliver the letters of invitation from the Prime Minister for Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Royal Government of Bhutan.

During the visit, Acharya will also hold consultations with his counterpart on matters relating to the preparations for the 11th SAARC Summit to be held in Kathmandu from 4-6 January 2002.


Utilise resources for development, says minister

Kathmandu, Dec. 12 (RSS):Minister of State for Water Resources Narayan Sharma Poudel has stressed the need to properly utilise natural resources for the economic development of the country.

Addressing a programme organised here today on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Renuka Herbal Cosmetics Pvt. Ltd, he said the organisation has made important contribution in the industrial development of the country.

On the occasion MP Rabindra Lal Shrestha said Renuka Herbal products are very effective.

At the progamme, managing director of Tripura Business Asia Jung Bahadur Shrestha, the authorised sales agent for Renuka Herbal Cosmetics Pvt Ltd, was given a certificate.

On the occasion, ex-chairman of the Federation of Cottage and Small Scale Industries Ramesh Kumar Shrestha said home herbal products have been very popular at the international level and emphasis should be given to their development and extension.

Managing director of Renuka Cosmetics Pvt. Ltd Satya Narayan Prasad Rauniyar said that the company has been producing 10 various products since the year 2055 B.S.


‘Red Machhindranath, a unique tradition of Nepalese society’

Kathmandu, Dec. 12. (RSS):  A discussion programme on ‘Bungdyo’ or the Red Machhindranath deity was organised here today jointly by the Royal Nepal Academy and the South Asia Institute of Hidelberg University, Kathmandu branch.

On the occasion Prof. William Douglas of Wolfson College at Oxford University spoke about Red Machhindranath or Amoghpasa Lokeswor and expressed the view that the history of this tradition exists only in Nepal and not even in South East Asia or South Asia.

Member of the Royal Nepal Academy and coordinator of the seminar Dr. Ram Dayal Rakesh, highlighting the objective of the seminar, said it is the responsibility of all to promote our traditions, original religion and culture.

Also speaking on the occasion were representatives of the South Asia Institute Hidelberg University Ms Mariya Crumph, Prof. Dr. Prayagraj Sharma, Tejeswor Babu Gwong and Dr. Ramesh Dhungel who shed light on various aspects of religion and culture concerning the Red Machhinadranath.
