'Give parents right to their property' Kathmandu, Dec. 13 (RSS): NC president Girija Prasad Koirala has said parents should be given the right on whether to give parental property to sons or daughters. Koirala, who was speaking at a function on "Women's Rights, Human Rights" organised by the Nepal Women's Association on the occasion of the 53rd Human Rights Day here today, remarked that since parents themselves can offer more justice, this right should be left with them. Stating that democracy and human rights are complementary to each other, the NC leader noted that human rights is a broad issue and is not focused on women's rights alone. Minister for Physical Planning and Works Chiranjivi Wagle said efforts have been made to ensure women's rights in parental property through amendment in the civil code. NC general secretary Sushil Koirala expressed the view if we can strengthen human rights, women's rights also could be preserved and promoted. NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC urged the women to fight for justice and against terrorism. NC central member Ram Chandra Paudel said we have to go villages to make women conscious of their rights. Various other speakers including member of the Human Rights Commission Indira Rana, member-secretary of the Women's Department of NC Ambika Basnet and former president of the Nepal Women's Association Mina Pandey also spoke at the function chaired by central president of the association Uma Adhikari.
