Unity Crucial
THESE are very crucial times for Nepal and its people. The
peace that prevailed in the country once was shattered by the Maoists since last six
years. After all, in a democratic set up, there can be no issue which cannot be sorted out
amicably but it is and has been the sole intention of the Maoists, who have been declared
terrorists since the State of Emergency was declared by the government around a month
back, to destroy the fabric of security and peace in the country. With such a pressing
situation in front of the country to disarm the Maoists, the government has always been
sensitive to the feelings of all the political parties. This is the main reason why all
party meetings take place so frequently. The all party meets are designed to forge a
consensus together with making the government activities transparent. In continuity, just
the other day, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba convened an all party meeting at his
office in Singha Durbar. Such meets are important in sharing views and ideas of all. In
this connection, Prime Minister Deuba has urged all the political parties to extend their
sincere and full cooperation to the government for safeguarding peoples rights and
consolidating multi-party democracy in times when the terrorists are trying to destabilise
and ruin the country. This was a timely exhortation of Prime Minister Deuba in the
presence of the leaders of the various political parties. At the meeting, there was
agreement on the point that the objectives of the state of emergency are met and the
anomalies and aberrations checked. Towards the achievement of the goals specified there
was no difference in view. This meeting, like all the previous ones, came out with support
for the government and its initiatives. The main focus at present is coming down heavily
on the Maoist terrorists who had in the past made the life of the innocent people very
difficult. Consequently, the economy of the country too has suffered. Now that the Maoists
terrorists are on the run, there is no doubt that better days are ahead for Nepal and its
people. At the same time, the people are feeling more secure and are going about their
normal activities without fear of being intimidated or terrorised by the Maoists. This
achievement is noteworthy at a time when the country has already embarked on the path of
rapid all round development. |
