Traffic lights with sound soon in streets

Kathmandu, Dec. 26 (RSS): Traffic lights with sound are to be introduced to make it easier for the blind to cross the streets.

The traffic lights with sound developed for the first time in Nepal by a blind person through his own investment and efforts to make the physical environment more manageable for the blind will be set up between Ratna Park and Bhadrakali in Kathmandu.

A press conference organised by the National Disabled Federation, Nepal here today was informed that the traffic lights with sound developed by Ramesh Dahal, 32, had already been approved by the HMG authority concerned and it will installed coming Sunday.

The audible traffic lights emit a sound for 15 seconds and the road has to be crossed within this duration. The service will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It took about one and half month to put the traffic lights together in consultation with the Department of Roads, Dahal said.

President of the National Disabled Federation of Nepal Muishwar Pandey also expressed his views on the occasion.
