Training for women trek guides

BY A STAFF REPORTER

Kathmandu, Feb. 5: With a view to meet the demand of the female trekking guides, a five-week "Female Trekking Guide Training Programme" is being conducted in Pokhara jointly by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Three Star Adventure Trekking (P).

Similar training programme was conducted last year in co-operation with NTB.

According to the organisers, the major goals of the training is to enhance the quality of trekking services and encourage women to involve in tourism.

It also aims at empowering women and increasing independence and self-confidence in them.

Women from lower social and economic strata have been selected to provide the training. Those having already involved in tourism and want to improve their knowledge of dealing with tourists in a professional way, are also participating in the training.

Started from January 15, the training will conclude on February 22.

Meanwhile, NTB and Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA) have been conducting a rafting training "Swift Water Rescue Technicians Training Programme" at the Bhotekoshi River. The instructors for the training are from England.

The training that started on Feb. 1 will complete by 15 this month.

Participants are expected to develop a sense of confidence and necessary skills to carry out rescue operations.
