Maoist movement aimless, says Acharya Lalitpur, Feb. 6 (RSS): Minister for Finance and Defense Mahesh Acharya has described the Maoist movement as aimless and directionless. At a face to face programme organised by the reporters club here today, Minister Acharya said one Nepali killing another Nepali and forcing many a sister and daughter into widowhood can never help resolve the problems of poverty, unemployment and corruption. Stating that democracy does not entail poverty, unemployment and social disparities, he said efforts are being made to better understand such problems and resolve them. The government is actively working for ensuring quality education and basic health care for all, he said adding, it is imperative on the part of all political parties to shun mutual disputes and work unitedly to resolve all national problems. He also asked all political parties to help pass the bill aimed at controlling corruption, during the upcoming parliamentary session. As for the armed police force, the Defense Minister said the decision in this connection has not been taken haphazardly and the formation of the force will be justified in parliament. Ex-parliament general secretary Jivan Lal Satyal stressed the need for all political parties to hold serious discussions in parliament to resolve the Maoist problem. Ex-SAARC Secretary General Yadav Kant Silwal expressed the view that in order to resolve the Maoist problem effective measures should be taken to alleviate poverty, resolve unemployment and bring education and health services within the reach of the poor. Nepal Teachers' Association president Keshav Bhattarai and senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari stressed the need to properly address the problems facing the people and check corruption so as to resolve the Maoist problem.
