Livestock development for poverty eradication

Dhading, Feb. 14 (RSS):Dhading District Livestock Development Office distributed chickens, goats, hybrid pigs and buffaloes to the farmers of the backward communities with the objective of increasing their income under the poverty alleviation programme.

Altogether 400 chickens were distributed to 10 poor farmers of the backward community in Ward No 3 of Nilkantha Village Development Committee while 20 local goats and three hybrid goats were provided to to the women’s group constiuted at Maidi-9 under the Women Development Programme, according to the district Livestock Development Office.

Likewise under the Hybrid Pig Development programme, 22 hybrid pigs (20 females and two males) were distributed to the hybrid pig farm group of Nilkantha-5 and 20 Hybrid buffaloes were provided to the poor farmers of Baireni-8 under the Buffalo Development Programme.

A policy has been formulated to run various programmes under the B. P. with the poor programme for poverty alleviation.

According to Dr. Guru Prasad Khakurel, arrangements have been made to distribute the first kids of the distributed goats to other farmers of the district.

Meanwhile, a report received form Parasi chairman of Nawalparasi District Development Committee Iswori Prasad Sharma inaugurated the one-day agricultural fair organised by Sunwal Village Development Committee and the district Agriculture Development Office at Sunwal VDC recently.

Seventy-four stalls demonstrating various agricultural products and tools and implements were opened at the fair.

On the occasion thirty-one farmers were given prizes for their products.

Himlal Parajuli, Parshuram Chapagain, Ramchandra Lamichahe, Bhanubhakta Gautam, Man Bahadur Dhakal and Devi Prasad Ghimire were given prizes for best cow and buffalo, foodgrain, tomato, potato and vegetable production in the district.
