HMs upcoming visit to China to deepen ties Kathmandu, Feb. 21 (RSS): Minister for National Defense of China Gen. Chi Haotian met Minister for Defense Mahesh Acharya at Singha Durbar this afternoon. Welcoming General Chi and other members of his delegation, Defense Minister Acharya said it is a matter of happiness that this is the first official visit to Nepal by a Chinese Defense Minister, that too on the occasion of Mahashivaratri festival and the Royal Nepal Army Day. He expressed the belief that the present visit of general Chi will help further strengthen the friendly relations existing between Nepal and china. He also appreciated Chinese cooperation in various sectors in Nepal. According to the Defense Ministry, the Chinese Defense Minister appreciated Nepals cooperation in Chinas entry into the United Nations, its support to the "one China policy" and its contribution to world peace. Gen. Chi also said that he is positive about the idea of establishing a regional peace-keeping training centre in Nepal. Both the Defense Ministers expressed the view that exchange of high level visits between Nepal and China helps further promote mutual understanding. They also expressed confidence that the upcoming visit by His Majesty the King to China at the invitation of the Chinese President will contribute to further promoting friendship between the two countries and expanding the areas of bilateral cooperation. Charge d Affaires at the Chinese Embassy Zhang Tiegen, members of the Chinese Defense Ministers delegation, the Chief of the Army Staff of the Royal Nepalese Army, the secretary at the Defense Ministry and senior government officials were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Minister for National Defense of the Peoples Republic of China Gen. Chi Haotian has said that over 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, good neighbourliness and cooperative friendship between Nepal and China, which are based on the five principles of peaceful co-existence, have made progress and been steadfast through thick and thin. In a statement issued upon his arrival here today, the Chinese Defense Minister said further promotion of Sino-Nepal friendship in the new century not only serves the fundamental interest of the two peoples, but also contributes to peace and stability in the region. He has also expressed the belief that his present visit would help promote lasting stability, good neighbourliness and friendly cooperation between Nepal and China in the new century. Other Stories |
