Their Majesties grace Shivaratri celebration

Kathmandu, Feb. 21 (RSS): His Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev and Her Majesty Queen Aishwarya Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah graced the Mahashivaratri and Army Day Celebration Ceremony organised by the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) at the RNA Pavilion, Tundikhel this afternoon.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev was also present on the occasion.

A 31-gun Royal salute was presented to His Majesty the King on the occasion.

On the occasion His Majesty the King gave away the King’s banner to commanding officer of Sri Rajdal Battalion Lt. Colonel Taj Man Singh Basnyat.

His Majesty the King also conferred the orders, decorations and medals awarded on the occasion of His Majesty’s 56th auspicious birthday on the Chief of the Army Staff, officers and personnels of other ranks.

His Majesty also gave away the prizes to American Embassy Military Attache Lt. Col. John Robert Wilkingson and his partner and Indian Embassy Military Attache Major N. S. Chauhan and partner declared first and second respectively in the guest event.

Likewise, His Majesty gave away the prizes to Major Prajwal Basnet and Subedar Narendra Kumar Jarga Magar declared first and second respectively in the free fall parachute jump.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Rajparishad Standing Committee, the Deputy Prime Minister, the ministers, MPs, the heads of constitutional bodies and diplomatic missions, high ranking officials of HMG and other distinguished persons were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion the Royal Nepalese Army had presented the Shivaratri Feu De Joie, fan fair, mass and band display, marshal art, dog show, free fall jump, guest event, raid operation and flight past by helicopters.

Thousands of people had gathered a round Tundikhel to have a glimpse of the Shivaratri Feu De Joie programme.
