Tax exemption on software demanded Kathmandu, Feb. 23 (RSS): A delegation led by president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rajesh Kaji Shrestha met Minister for Science and Technology Surendra Prasad Choudhary the other day. Stating that the Chamber had set up a data bank and information network at the Chamber's office, Mr Shrestha said it had already entered into an agreement on the enforcement of cyber law, e-commerce and digital system at "wisekey" organised by International Telecommuni-cations Union at Geneva. The Chamber would work as a training umbrella and play a pivotal role on the development of information technology in the country, he added. He also called for exemption of tax on the hardware and software in the upcoming budget, formulating cyber law and setting up of the information technology park. Responding to the delegation, Minister Chaudhary said efforts are being made to include Nepal in the global information map and to frame cyber law. He also hoped for full co-operation from the chamber in this endeavour. As e-commerce seems quite useful for the small and medium scale entrepreneurs, the chamber should give priority to providing such technology to its members, he added. Mr Chaudhary suggested that the chamber conduct seminars on information technology in collaboration with the International Trade Centre, UN, ESCAP and UNAPCTT. Other Story |
