HIS Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Aishwarya Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah is paying a state visit to the Peoples Republic of China beginning today at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin. The government and foreign policy experts have described the visit as an important event to further cement the age old friendly and cooperative relations between Nepal and China. During the state visit, Their Majesties the King and the Queen are scheduled to meet with Chinese leaders, most importantly President Zemin, and discuss Nepal-China relations and explore possibilities of expanding the areas of cooperation between the two nations. Nepal and China have remained close friends throughout the history. These two countries have no problems and they have been cooperating with each other at the time of need. China has been a true partner in Nepals development endeavours as it has helped in the infrastructure development of this country. Nepal has also reiterated its stance and commitment not to allow any activities in its soil that is likely to harm Chinas national interest and as a good neighbour, has proved it in action. Nepal is a small country, which has been struggling hard to uplift its social and economic condition in a faster pace. For this, it has been seeking active and meaningful cooperation from friendly countries in the world. China has achieved tremendous economic growth in the past and it is emerging as one of the strong economic powers in the world. Thus, Nepal can learn and benefit much from China and its development for its economic and social development. The friendly relations between these two neighbouring countries are strong both at the official and the peoples level. The exchanges of high level visits that have taken place regularly, have contributed to further consolidating this friendly relations between the two countries. His Majesty the King and other Nepalese leaders and officials have paid visits to China several times. Similarly, different Chinese leaders and officials have visited Nepal on a regular basis. On top of that, there have been several exchanges of visits and cooperation at the peoples level. These are some of the indications that Nepal and China are moving even closer and working together for the common good of both the countries and the peoples. Nepal and China, right from the beginning, have, through actions, demonstrated an example of true neighbourliness. Both the countries have now given more emphasis on expansion of economic cooperation through trade and investment. Nepal has asked Chinese businessmen to invest in Nepal, as a result some Nepal-China joint ventures have already been established in Nepal. The present visit of Their Majesties the King and the Queen is, thus, expected to give further boost to the already existing cordial relations and cooperation between Nepal and China. Other Story |
