‘Launch social awareness drive to abolish racial discrimination’

Dhangadhi, Jan. 5 (RSS): A talk programme was organised here on Thursday with the objective of pressing for the implementation of the international convention against racial discrimination which came into force on January 4, 1969.

Most of the speakers at the talk programme organised by Nepal Rastriya Dalit Samaj Kalyan Sangh, National Association for the Welfare of the Oppressed and Downtrodden Castes of Nepal, Kailali district chapter, stressed launching a social awareness campaign for abolition of racial discrimination.

Chairman of Kailali District Development Committee (DDC) Narayan Datta Mishra called on all the oppressed and down-trodden communities to launch a united campaign against racial discrimination.

Academician and chief of Kailali Multiple Campus Dr. Hemraj Panta said all-round national development was not possible if the down-trodden and oppressed communities which have rich traditional skills are sidelined in the national development mainstream.

He underlined the need to do away with social evils such as caste discrimination from society by giving emphasis on education and awareness.

Member of the world conference against Racism National Report Preparation Committee-2001, Ganesh B.K. said that it was important for the oppressed class people to first free themselves of inferiority complex.

At the programme presided over by district president of Nepal Rastriya Dalit Samaj Kalyan Sangh Rabindra Gahatraj, vice-president of the Sangh Maniram Dewal, intellectual Laxman Tulachan (Tarun), Dal Bahadur Sunuwar of the Dalit Sramik Morcha, Harihar Kharel and Dabal Bahadur B.K. also expressed their views.

Earlier, a rally was taken out from the main town intersection which went around the main thoroughfares of the town.
