I was totally shocked to know that a husband in Nepal can sell his wife to a brothel in India! Though a helpless woman, Taradevi Sharma has been able to free herself from the hell after a two-year constant struggle. I would like to congratulate her for her effort to escape from the brothel and then file petition against her monster-like hubby. I am equally sorry for the physical and mental torture Taradevi underwent for two years. The news obviously points out the gravity of the problem of girl trafficking in the country. If a husband sells even his wife, who a woman can trust? This question has really emerged as a crucial question among the women in the country. In fact, it seems that the concerned authorities have failed to check the increasing incidents of girl trafficking in the country. I do not know whether the lack of stricter laws or the lighter punishment to the culprit involved in girl trafficking has caused the increase in such crimes. But it is sure that this heinous crime cannot be controlled unless we women ourselves initiate a united campaign against the girl trafficking in the country. Hope the press will keep a tab on what happens next. We should all be waiting for reports about the punishment the husband is meted out. That should discourage such crimes, at least at individual levels. Sony Sharma |
