Nepal urges Maoists to give up violence Bhaktapur, July 21 (RSS): CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the Maoists to renounce the ultra leftist thinking and come to the negotiating table as, he said, attempts to gain state power by means of violence, killings and abduction will never materialize. Opposition leader Nepal, who was speaking at a programme organised here today to observe the 23rd memorial day of founder general secretary of Nepal Communist Party the late Pushpa Lal, described the Maoist problem as political and stressed the need to resolve the problem through dialogue. At the programme, Mr Nepal felicitated Ramila Shilpakar, who secured the highest marks from among girls in the S.L.C. examinations of 2057 B.S. Likewise, he distributed CPN-UML memberships to about 200 persons including DDC member Basudev Thapa, who joined the CPN-UML after dissociating themselves from various parties. On the occasion, CPN-UML standing committee member Ishwor Pokhrel stressed the need for the party rank and file to strengthen party organisation by maintaining the party principles, system and discipline. He also threw light on the late Pushpa Lals contribution to the communist movement. CPN-UML central member Krishna Gopal Shrestha spoke of the need to follow the path shown by the late Pushpa Lal, while a host of other speakers highlighted the contribution of the late Pushpa Lal to the success of communist movement. The programme was chaired by CPN-UML district secretary Rajendra Man Shrestha. In celebration of Pushpa Lal Memorial Day, the CPN-UML district committee also organised a blood donation programme at Arniko Auditorium yesterday. Eighty-nine persons donated blood at the programme. Likewise in Syangja, the Democratic National Youth Federation (DNYF) Syangja district chapter organised a blood donation programme here on Friday to commemorate the Pushpa Lal Memorial Day. DNYF Syangja district president Krishna Khand initiated the blood-donation programme by donating blood. Altogether 27 persons donated blood on the occasion. Various leaders including CPN-UML Syangja district secretary Prem Narayan Poudel, DDC chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa, DNYF central member Prakash Sigdel and CPN-UML Gandaki Zone co-ordination committee member Mohan Regmi paid tributes to the late Pushpa Lal, the founder general secretary of Nepal Communist Party.
