Kabbadi players selected

Kathmandu, July 30: Nepal Kabbadi Association has selected its players for the participation in the upcoming South Asian Federation Games in Pakistan.

According to National Sports Council’s Publicity Department, the selection competition was held yesterday and the name of the players who got selected were made public today.

The players selected are: Govind Chaudhary, Moti Lal Mahato, Deepak Karki, Sant Bahadur Kumal, Binod Kumar Jha (all Nepal Police), Sudhir Ghimire, Man Bahadur RanaBhat, Dambar Baduwal, Bikas Shrestha, Bishnu Shrestha, Nav Raj Adhikary(All Royal Nepal Army).

Samir Manshur, Sambar Prajapati, Dilip Shrestha, Manoj Kumar Singh Raya, Sanjaya Shrestha, Kewal Raut, Manoj Kumar Mandal, Saroj Kumar Singh(all Central Region) have also been selected for the coming SAF Games. Dilip Khadka and LaxmiDhan Adhikary of Far-Western Region were also selected. Shanti Singh, the chief kabbadi coach was the coordinator and Ram Narayan Yadav and Tashiruddin Manshur were the members of selection competition.


MPC, Central Region enter semis

Kathmandu, July 30: Mahendra Police Club and Central Region stormed into the semifinals of ongoing National Football Championship having won their matches convincingly at the Dashrath Stadium today.

The Policemen mauled and annihilated Mid-Western Region with the wide 13-2 goal margin. Studded with Nepal’s young and experienced international booters, the police team took control of the game from start.

They were also added by rivals’ weak game plan and dearth of skill in making effective moves as well as dogged defensive tactics to ward off the rivals attacks.

As a result, Police team were taken 6-1 lead in the first half and added seven goals in the second half. Three players—Striker Sal Bahadur Karki, midfielder Ananta Thapa and Raju Pulami each hammered hat-tricks while Ramesh Budathoki, Parbat Pandey and Kishor Subba scored once to inflict rivals the heavy loss.

Similarly, the Central Region’s youngsters registered a convincing 5-1victory against Far-Western Region. Central’s striker Raj Kumar K.C. struck twice, one each in both half while Kailash Dangol, Aita Singh Tamang and Janak Singh added one each. The only goal for Far-Western came from Manoj Shahi.

The championshipis being organised also as the selection games for the coming 9th South Asian Federation Games to be held in Pakistan in September.

Seven teams-five regional and one each from Nepal Police and Royal Nepal Army-are taking part in tournament. After the completion of the tournament, football players under 23 of age will be selected and will be kept under training for the Islamabad Games.

Tomorrow, Eastern Region will take on Royal Nepal Army’s Tribhuwan club.
