NCPP meet held
Koirala emphasises unity among political parties

Kathmandu, June 24: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Party President Girija Prasad Koirala emphasised unity among all the political parties having faith on multiparty democracy and constitutional monarchy to properly address the existing problems being faced by the country.

Prime Minister Koirala said that he and his party are ready to forge alliance and launch a package programme for the peaceful solution of the existing problems and sustainable development of the country, according to Nepali Congress Parlaimentary Party (NCPP) Secretary Benup Raj Prasain.

Prime Minister Koirala was addressing the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party meeting held at his residence this evening on the eve of the 20th session of the parliament. The 20th session of the parliament is beginning from tomorrow (Monday).

Today’s meeting of the NCPP decided to hold separate as well as all-party meetings to draw their attention towards the necessity of the passage of the most important ordinances which are still lying before the Parliament. "The meeting has decided to activate the NC Party committees formed to hold dialogues with the political parties so that it could pave ways for ending the stalemate regarding the passing of the ordinances from the Parliament," said Prasain.

According to him, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Ram Chandra Poudel informed the meeting about the present law and order situation of the country and the need for introducing the Public Security Regulation-2058.

In today’s meeting, which was participated by 110 NC MPs from both the Houses of the Parliament and senior leaders of the party, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Mahantha Thakur apprised the meeting about the ordinances and held the discussions on matters regarding the running of the upcoming session of the Parliament.

The meeting was also addressed by former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. NC leader and former prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was absent in the meeting.

Today’s meeting also endorsed the earlier decision of the NCPP’s working committee regarding the best wishes and congratulatory messages extended to His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev upon His Majesty’s accession to the throne. The meeting also passed a resolution regarding the speedy recovery of Her Majesty Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah.

Similarly, it also endorsed the condolence messages extended to Their late Majesties King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya, the then Crown Prince Dipendra, Prince Nirajan, Princess Sruti and other members and relatives of the Royal family on their sad and untimely demise.

The next meeting of the NCPP is scheduled to be held at 8 AM on June 28 at the Prime Minister’s residence at Balawatar.
