Probably, many people may point out at the bridge linking Kathmandu and Patan at Shankhamul if they are asked to choose the most beautiful bridge of the Kathmandu Valley. Constructed with the assistance of the Japanese government, the beautiful bridge, paved with red bricks, was once famous for the shooting of films. I had seen many films being shot at and around the bridge during my six months stay at Buddhanagar a few years back. And the red bricks put in contrast with the white walls to pave the bridges floor have been the main reason behind the beauty of the bridge. But the other day when I saw women workers busy in removing the red bricks. I became very sad. I did not know what the concerned authority was doing on the bridge by damaging its beauty. May be they are trying to replace the bricks for cement which will never give a good look to the bridge. I humbly request the concerned body not to cement the floor of the bridge. Only the red bricks will suit the bridge. Rajesh Uprety |
