Businessman press govt to provide better security

Kathmandu, Mar. 24:Businessmen and industrialists of Kathmandu yesterday expressed their concern over the deteriorating security situation in the country, at an interaction programme organised by Nepal Traders’ Association. They strongly urged the government to ensure law and order situation.

Speaking on the occasion, Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, acting president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said that the insecure atmosphere would not be beneficial to anyone.

Shrestha urged the government to end the prevailing situation.

Mahesh Kumar Agrawal, former President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, said that the government must provide security to the business sector.

Similarly, Keshav Rayamajhi, general secretary of Himal Overseas Trade Association, was of the opinion that the government has no right to charge revenue from the business and industrial sectors if it is unable to ensure security.

Vice President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Jagadish Agrawal, President of Supermarket Trade Association Pushpa Das Shrestha, President of Kathmandu Trade Association Gyanendra Bhakta Shrestha, President of Flooring and Furnishing Association Bharat Tibdewala, President of Gold and Silver Dealers Association Tej Ratna Shakya, general secretary of Nepal Bag Association Shankar Basnet and others expressed their views regarding the growing insecurity in the country.

Chaired by Nepal Traders’ Association President Rubaya Nath Koirala, the interaction programme was participated in by more than 270 businessmen, industrialists and traders.

Meanwhile, added for Biratnagar fire a in a jute godown at Ward No. 4 of Biratnagar Municipality has destroyed jute worth of Rs. 3 million. The godown belongs to Sharada Prasad Rijal. Local people say the godown belongs to Sharada Prasad Rijal. Local people say the godown was rented by one Gulabprasad Rauniyar to store jute.

According to district police office, the fire broke out Friday evening at about 9 P.M. and fire brigade of Biratnagar, Itahari, Dharan, Inaruwa and Damak were fighting the fire till Saturday morning. Police SP said there was a large number of policemen mobilised to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses. Thapa said the fire could be kept under control only at about 10 A.M. He said there was about 48,000 kg of jute kept in the godown.

Thapa said it is not yet know of how the godown, which was locked, caught fire. Local people look at the fire with scepticism. They say the jute was used as collateral to draw loans from the Biratnagar branch of Nepal Bank Limited. The godown was also insured it was learnt.
