Book fair to raise awareness BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, May 2: The Fifth Nepal Education and Book Fair is to kick off Friday at Bhrikuti Mandap. Organised by Global Exposition and Management Services Pvt. Ltd in collaboration with National Booksellers and Publishers Association of Nepal (NBPAN), the fair will last for nine days. The organisers told a press conference here this morning that the fair would have two sections: the Education and Career section, in Hall A and Book Fair section, in Hall B. They said the Education and Career section would last till May 7 while the Book Fair section would go on till May 12. The Book Fair section, to be participated in by over 50 publishers and booksellers from home and abroad, is expected to have over 100 thousand titles on display. The organisers said the event was organised mainly to raise awareness among the institutions and the public about the importance of books. "We aim at providing a wide range of books and publications to the needy students, readers and professionals at large and inculcate the reading habit in the general public," said Madhav Maharjan on behalf of NBPAN. He said they would offer 10 per cent discount on books during the fair. "We wont however allow the pirated books to be on show." The fair, according to the organisers, also aims at providing a common platform for meeting and interaction between the publishers, booksellers, printers, authors, illustrators, students, academicians and the institutions which impart training and quality education at home and abroad. The show will also feature talk programmes, workshops, demonstrations, and various educational programmes like quiz contest, public speaking, painting competition. The fair that aims at benefiting 75,000 people will have facilities of information counter, meeting rooms, communication centre, cafeteria, technical service department and 24 hour security service. The organisers said the fair was gaining popularity over the years. The first book fair in 1997 was reportedly visited by 25,000 visitors while the fourth fair last year attracted some 50,000 people and had a transaction of over two million rupees. This years event is sponsored by Ekta Books, Lord Buddha Education Foundation, The British Council, ITNTI.COM, Aqua, UPS and Pentasoft. Other Stories |
