Nepal-Japan Children Library opened BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, May 15: Her Royal Highness Princess Shruti Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah inaugurated the Nepal-Japan Children Library amid a special function here Tuesday. Her Royal Princess also keenly inspected the newly constructed library building. Located at Lainchaur, the library was established with funding by Joho Roren, one of the largest industrial unions in Japan, and managed by the Osaka International Club, Nepal Chapter. Kathmandu Metropolis City (KMC) provided land for the library building. Speaking at the programme, the KMC Mayor Keshav Sthapit said that the library reflected the deep friendship between Nepal and Japan. Sthapit said that KMC has been organising various programmes aiming at childrens intellectual development. President of Osaka International Club, Nepal Chapter Ms Sapana said the construction of the library was done at a cost of 7 million yen and would be useful not only for children but for others too. Joho Roren President Sakaya Ibawasi said that such people to people relation helps boost Nepal-Japan ties. KMC Ward Chairman Barsaram Bhandari said that KMC would help run the library. The library offers reference books, educational toys, computer, Internet and
e-mail facilities to the school children. Spread over the a-storey building, the library
will have 10,000 books as a permanent collection. The books are classified into two
sections: for primary level children and lower secondary The ground floor houses a hall which could be used for seminar and other recreational and educational programmes. The library also consists of a separate Japanese section that will provide information about the culture and customs of Japan and its people. The objective of the library is to develop reading habit among children and motivate them to read different types of books besides school textbooks, according to the library management committee. It also has the aim to encourage children to participate in various activities so that it could result in their all round development. Other Stories |
