NSC shifts inaugural date of National Games BY A STAFF REPORTER Kathmandu, May21: The call for bandhs (closures) by six communists has forced National Sports Council to shift the inaugural dates of 5th National Games. Now, the Games will be held from Jestha 21 to 26 (June 3-8). Since the dates of upcoming closures and the National Games coincided, the dates of the games have to shifted. Earlier, the Games were scheduled to be played Jestha 14-19 but as the bandhs have been called for three days in row, Jestha 14, 15, 16, the shift in the Games dates became inevitable. A meeting of the 5th National Games organising committee that sat under the chairmanship of State Minister for Education and Sports Dilendra Prasad Badu decided to shift the dates. A press release issued by NSCs Publicity Department said that the shift in the dates will incur about 2.7 million rupees to the organisers. Moreover, the meeting has decided Asian single horn rhinoceros as the 5th National Games mascot. The meeting has also made an assessment on reports submitted by different sub-committees of National Games. At the meeting, NSC Member-Secretary Binod Shankar Palikhe, members of the main organising committee and executive committees were also present. Other Story |
