Protest programme

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT

Butwal, Nov 2: Debdaha Milk Development Co-operative has launched protest programme against the Himalaya Dairy for its decision to reduce the purchasing price of milk by Rs. 1.40 here from Tuesday.

A district level meeting of the Co-operative has also decided not to sell its milk to the Dairy and demanded the immediate payment of its amount to be paid by the Dairy.

According to the chairman of the Co-operative Dilli Paudel, the Dairy has to pay about Rs. 7,25,000 rupees to it.

He said that they would continue their agitation until the Dairy paid the remaining amount of the farmers.

Himalaya Dairy’s decision came after Dairy Association Central Committee decided to buy milk from farmers with less Rs. 1.85 in the existing price.

Farmers across the district sell their milk through the Co-operative to the dairies run by private sector. About 15,000 litrers milk is produced daily in Rupandahi district.
