Return arms for talks,  Khadka tells Maoists

Syangja, Nov. 26: Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khaka said that the government would consolidate and mobilise all its security apparatus to protect the life and property of the people.

"Talks could resume only after the Maoists return back the arms and ammunition looted from the army barrack and police and shun the path of violence," added Minister Khadka. He had visited the various government and private financial installations damaged by the Maoists on Friday night.

Khadka also expressed commitment that the government would expedite the development activities for the well being of the people.

Chief District Officer Janardan Nepal and police official Sabendra Khanal apprised the Minister about security arrangement in the district and the damages caused by the Maoists attack.


Convention of Linguistic Society Nepal kicks off

Kathmandu, Nov. 26 (RSS): The 22nd convention of the Linguistics Society Nepal commenced at the Tribhuvan University’s Centre for Economic Development Administration (CEDA) hall in Kirtipur today.

At the two sessions of the conference today, discussions were held on historical linguistics and language types and on different aspects of the etymology and syntax of the Nepali, Kumal, Bote, Maithili, Kala and Manipuri languages.

As part of the deliberations, society president Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Pokharel presented a working paper on the suffix ‘O’ of the nouns in Neo-Indian languages, Bangladeshi linguist Sikder Monoar Murshad on the Neo-Indoaryan language and contemporary Bangla language, Govinda Tumbahangfe on the Limbu language nouns and Tikaram Poudel on grammatical aspects of the Nepali and Manipuri languages.

The participants exchanged views and commented on the working papers.

In tomorrow’s session, Nepalese, Australian, Japanese, Swiss linguists and linguists from other countries are scheduled to present their working papers which will be followed by deliberations on the working papers.

Vice-chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy for Science and Technology (RONAST) Prof Dr Dayananda Bajracharya inaugurated the conference.

Prof Dr Kamal Prakash Malla and Dr Yogendra Yadav respectively chaired the first and second sessions of the conference.

It is learnt that a total of 25 working papers are to be presented in course of the conference


Ram Pyari’s dead body found

Siraha, Nov. 26 (RSS): Dead body of 45-year-old Ram Pyari Shah, spouse of Uchit Shah Teli, Kalyanpur VDC-7 of Siraha district has been found abandoned on paddy field of Brahma Dev Shah of the same locality at 9 a.m. Sunday.

According to Superintendent of Police Bishwa Raj Singh, Mrs. Shah was hacked to dead with a sharp weapon and left in the paddy field.

Police suspect that her nephew Ramji who scuffled with the deceased in the morning on the same day might have killed Mrs. Ram Pyari after her dead body was found sometime after the scuffle.

Accused Ramji Shah who has fled away from the village is being search for.

Police have also taken the husband of the deseased into custody to inquiry into the murder.
